What Are the Health Benefits of Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit

Health Benefits of Fresh-Squeezed Grapefruit

Atherosclerosiss :-

Grapefruit contains pectin, which is very effective in reducing the accumulation of arterial deposits. Also, high amount of vitamin C helps to strengthen and maintain the elasticity of your arteries. The accumulation of these deposits is harmful for the flow of blood to the other parts of the body from the heart and transportation of oxygen to the heart itself. This condition also makes the arteries inflexible due to the plaque. If this condition remains undiagnosed for long then, it can lead to fatality.

Stomach and pancreatic cancer :-

Grapefruit contains the anti-cancer agents, especially in the albedo, which are very protective against cancers in the digestive system.Grapefruits are packed with Lycopene, a carotenoid pigment that is responsible for the pink and red color of the grapefruit. (PLEASE NOTE: Lycopene is only found in pink and red grapefruit. White grapefruit does not provide this carotenoid). This powerful antioxidant acts as a scavenger of cancer-causing free radicals.

Breast cancer :-

According to a study, grapefruit has bioflavonoids which halt cancer cells from spreading in breast cancer patients by removing the excess estrogen in the body.Grapefruit is a rich source of antioxidants, phytonutrients and flavonoid that make it highly beneficial to protect from cancer. Free radicals are produced due to oxidative stress and are the leading cause of cancer. These free radicals damage DNA of cells which turns it into a cancerous cell. But antioxidants neutralize these free radicals and acts as a shield to protect DNA .

Malaria :-

The juice, or the fruit itself, contains valuable and natural ‘quinine’ which is advantageous for the treatment of malaria. Quinine is an alkaloid with a long history of treating malaria, as well as lupus, arthritis, and nocturnal leg cramps. It is not an easy component to find in many foods, so grapefruits are a beneficial and rare example. The quinine can be easily extracted from the fruits by boiling a quarter of grapefruit and straining the pulp.

Weight-loss :-

A grapefruit contains a fat-burning enzyme and help to reduce and absorb the sugar and starch in the body. People who are trying to lose weight consume this fruit.Grapefruit works as an excellent appetite suppressant as compared to many other substances and foods. It is said that smell of the grapefruit reduces the feeling of hunger, which is the reason why people often include grapefruit in their weight loss programs.Adding grapefruit to your diet can boost your metabolism and thus help in losing weight. A 2006 study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food found that obese people who ate half a grapefruit before each meal, without making any other dietary changes, lost an average of 3.5 pounds over 12 weeks.

Indigestion  :-

Grapefruit is useful for solving the problem of indigestion. It is very light as compared to other foods and thus, acts immediately on indigestion by easing the heat and irritation caused in the stomach. It improves the flow of digestive juices, which eases the movement of the bowels and keeps your excretory system regulated. This is due to the presence of fiber and vegetative pulp in grapefruits, that adds bulk to the bowels and regulates your excretory schedule, and grapefruit extract is also often used in modern medicine for these same reasons.

Diabetes :-

Diabetic patients can safely eat grapefruit, because consuming grapefruit can reduce the level of starch in the body. If a patient is diabetic, intake of grapefruit can help them to regulate the flow of sugar in their body, effectively handling the disease.

Acidity :-

Fresh grapefruit juice creates an alkaline reaction after digestion. The citric acid of the fruit is contained in the human body and thus, increases the effect of the alkalinity reaction after digestion. The juice extracted from the grapefruit is beneficial in preventing acid formation and many other diseases that arise due to the presence of excess acidity in the body.

Vitamin C Content :-

Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice contains vitamin C, or ascorbic acid. Vitamin C plays a central role in maintaining your tissue integrity — it helps your body produce collagen, a structural protein that provides stability to several tissues throughout your body. Without adequate vitamin C intake and collagen production, these tissues break down, leading to skin lesions, a weakening of your blood vessels and bone damage.

Vitamin A Content :-

Fresh-squeezed grapefruit also provides a source of vitamin A. Grapefruit, particularly red and pink varieties, contains beta-carotene, a pigment molecule that gives the fruit its color. Beta-carotene in grapefruit is converted to vitamin A in your body and then carries out a number of physiological functions. Adequate vitamin A intake supports your immune system, helps maintain healthy retinas and acts as an antioxidant in your body. It also aids in cellular communication, and vitamin A helps your cells develop to form functional tissue.

Helping with Respiratory Issues, Asthma :-

In case you didn’t know, vitamin C has been shown in numerous studies to lessen respiratory issues and prevent asthma. One study published in the journal Thorax found that consuming vitamin C-rich fruit reduced wheezing symptoms in children while also aiding asthma, chronic cough, shortness of breath, and even runny nose.

Boosting the Immune System, Preventing Colds :-

Along with containing high amounts of vitamin A, potassium, folate, and thiamin, grapefruits contain one of the most well known vitamins for boosting immunity and lessening the duration of colds or sickness – vitamin C.
