Home Remedies For Cough (Cure Cough at Home)
How to use home remedies to cure cough at home? The cough is a very common problem, which plagues us almost at some point of time during the year. It is often caused by some kind of chemical or mechanical irritation in the larynx, bronchi or pharynx. It can also be a side effect of problems related to sinus or tonsils. Whatever, may be the cause, it is an extremely uncomfortable feeling, which affects the entire system.
Cough can be of two different types. Dry and wet. Wet cough generally has mucus build up, which tends to come up while coughing. Wet coughs are caused by cold weather. On the other hand, dry cough is a result of some irritation at the end of the throat, which is caused by smoke or dust allergies.
Use Vaporubs :-
- According to a study at the Penn State College of Medicine, children above 2 years of age had symptomatic relief and could sleep better after applying vaporubs.
- While the exact reason how vaporubs work remains a mystery, the ingredients such as menthol, camphor and eucalyptus may have a role in relieving congestion.
Drink Warm Liquids :-
- A cough is best not neglected because it can lead to certain complications at times.
- Drinking warm water is a good way of soothing the inflammation in the throat ; but this does not have any taste and may be unappetizing for most people.
- A warm soup is a much better solution as is a glass of hot herbal tea.
Grapes :-
- Eating grapes can help relieve annoying lung conditions.
- They also act as an effective expectorant, which allows you to get rid of sticky phlegm.
- Try making grape juice yourself (instead of buying it boxed from the grocery store) and mix it with some honey before you drink it.
Hot Milk with honey :-
- This is a great home remedy for dry cough, specifically.
- The combination of warm milk and honey may help to ease the roughness and chest pain you may be experiencing.
- If consumed before bed time, you would unlikely wake up in the middle of the night to cough as well.
- Note: Dairy in general is known to welcome more mucus, so while this remedy may work for some, it probably won’t be your first choice.
Mullein tea :-
- Acting as an expectorant to draw out trapped mucous, mullein tea can be an excellent home remedy for cough and sore throat.
- For the treatment, start by filling a tea ball or strainer with mullein herb (dried).
- Then, steep the herb in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes.
- Finally, sip and drink as desired.
- You may also add some raw honey for taste and a boosted effect.
Sleep With the Head Elevated :-
- In some persons, a productive cough results when mucus drips from the back of the nose into the throat.
- This tends to grow worse at night when the body posture is conducive for such dripping.
- Sleeping with the head at a higher position helps to reduce such drainage and many people find this position helps reduce coughing at night and improves sleep.
Onion and Honey Juice :-
- Take a piece of onion and slice it into small pieces.
- Place it in a mixture and extract the juices.
- Pour the juice in a glass and add a teaspoon of honey.
- Mix both the ingredient by stirring vigorously.
- Drink the juice before bedtime.
- This juice is expected to provide relief from dry cough related problems.
