How to Get Rid of Sunburn? (Natural Sunburn Remedies)

 

Sunburn is a natural process though you can avoid it if you try. Continuous exposure to sun is harmful for skin though natural sunlight is also necessary for the health of the bone as natural sunlight is the best source of vitamin D. So, expose your body to direct sun only in the early morning and at the time of sunset when the presence of ultraviolet rays in the sun is comparatively less.

But never go to direct sun when it is right on your head, means at noon or in the afternoon. Never forget to apply sunscreen lotion on your skin before going to sun. You must take umbrella, hat and sunglasses before going to sun. Sun burn damages the natural health of the skin. It may turn your soft skin to rough and coarse skin within a few days. Regular sunburn makes your skin dark and dry. Moreover, it creates untimely wrinkle on your skin.

It may also gear up various skin problems – some problems are simple and some problems are critical like skin cancer. For this reason do not neglect sun burn. Treat it with great importance. You may get some readymade products that may remove sunburn very quickly. But they may not be good for the health of your skin in the long run. For this reason try some home remedies to treat your sun burn. This article will give you a few tips on the use of home products to treat sunburn.

Lemon Juice :-

To remove sun burn you need something acidic. The best natural acid which is easily available perhaps is lemon juice. Squeeze one fresh lemon and take out the juice. But do not apply it raw. It will burn your skin and may make your skin rough and black. Mix 5-6 times water with this lemon juice.Mix well and preserve it in a glass bottle. Take a cotton ball. Soak it in the lemon juice and apply it on your face, neck, hand, etc. where you have got sunburn. Leave it for 10-15 minutes and then wash it with cool water. Make ice cubes with this lemon water and rub it on your burnt skin. You will get benefit. Everyday use of lemon water helps to remove sunburn.

Coconut Oil :-

Coconut oil is excellent for any type of burn and of course for sunburn. Massage pure and thick coconut oil everyday on your skin before bath.Coconut oil hydrates your skin and cure dryness of skin due to sunburn. To enhance the power of coconut oil you may add few drops of lemon juice with this coconut oil. Use it every day to get the maximum result.

Cucumber Pulp And Juice :-

Cucumber is an excellent natural product that helps to remove sunburn. Grate one cucumber and extract the juice. Preserve the juice in refrigerator. Now grind the remaining cucumber to paste. Mix some fullers’ earth with this cucumber paste and apply that on your burnt skin as mask. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and then wash it with plain cold water.You will get benefit. Apply cucumber juice on your skin as astringent 2-3 times daily. You will get benefit. Everyday use of cucumber helps to remove sunburn. It makes your skin soft and supple as well as clean.

Milk And Saffron :-

Milk and saffron is excellent product that removes sunburn effectively and makes your skin fair. Take a cup of milk and soak 2-3 strands of saffron in it overnight in refrigerator.Next day, massage that milk on your skin. Leave it for 20-25 minutes so that your skin gets enough time to absorb the milk. Regular use of saffron milk helps to remove suntan and makes your skin fair.

Green Coconut Water :-

Green Coconut water is an excellent product that can remove any type of dark spots including sunburn. Preserve coconut water in your refrigerator. After coming back from sun, wash your face with plain water to remove initial sweat and dirt. After wiping the skin dry, apply coconut water on your skin and let it dry. Do not wipe. Let your skin absorb the coconut water. Use it twice or thrice daily to get the ultimate result. You will get a soft and smooth skin within few days.

Oatmeal to Get Rid of Sunburn :-

A bath with oatmeal is one of the not so common, yet very convenient and efficient ways of treating sunburn. The polysaccharides found in oatmeal will help to apply a protective covering on the skin and help it to heal faster.

    • Fill a sock full with rolled oatmeal and tie it at the edges.
    • Fill your bath tub with slightly warm or tepid water.
  • Once your bathtub is full, suspend the socks in the bathtub for a few minutes.
  • Squeeze out the sticky substance from the socks.
  • Repeat the process, until the water becomes muddy.
  • Soak yourself in the water, for a few minutes.
  • Allow your body to air dry o pats dry with a soft towel.

Apple Cider Vinegar to Get Rid of Sunburn :-

Vinegar helps to balance out the pH of the skin, thereby reducing the soreness and itchiness of the skin.  Many people have sworn by its healing properties and effectiveness in treating sunburn.

  • Take a bottle of undiluted apple cider vinegar.
  • Transfer vinegar into a spray bottle.
  • Spray the liquid on the sun burnt portion of your skin.
  • Allow it to dry.
  • Alternatively, you can dip a cotton ball in ACV and apply it on your sun burnt skin, for quick relief.

Freshly Brewed Tea to Get Rid of Sunburn :-

Tea with rich in tannins and helps to restore the pH balance of the skin. The tannins will help to draw out the heat from the body and soothe the irritated skin.

  • Measure approximately 100ml of water and bring it to a boil.
  • Add one teaspoon of tea leaves in the water.
  • Turn off the heat and allow the leaves to seep for a few minutes.
  • Strain the tea and allow it to cool.
  • Dip a cotton ball in the tea and apply the tea solution on the burnt area of your skin.
  • Allow it to dry and then wash yourself with cold water.

Aloe Vera Gel to Get Rid of Sunburn :-

Aloe –Vera gel is a wonderful gift from nature to treat a lot of skin related problems. It has soothing effects and also helps to keep the skin clean and well maintained. The plant is quite handy and can be grown in your house easily.

    • Cut off some thick aloe-vera leaves from the plant.
    • Slit the leaves open, by making an incision in the middle.
  • After slitting the top layer, you will notice a gel like substance.
  • Scoop it out with the help of a spoon and apply it on the burnt area.
  • Alternatively, you can also buy some gel from the store, in case you don’t want to go through the process of obtaining fresh gel from the leaves.
  • Store bought aloe-vera gels are only worth the price, only if the burnt area is too large.
