Home Remedies for Oily Hair Treatment at Home

 

When your hair gets greasy just a day or two after washing it, you likely have oily hair. Oil is a natural secretion of the scalp that helps keep hair healthy. Oily hair is the result of excessive oil production.

This can happen for many reasons like heredityhormonal changesexcessive stresseating too much oily food and poor hair care. Oily hair are heavy looking and unmanageable hair that clump together, and are more prone to dandruff and itchiness.

As oily hair looks unwashed, lifeless and dirty, it is important to control this condition so you can look your best. To prevent oily hair you need to keep the scalp clean. However, shampooing daily is not always a good idea. Chemicals in some shampoos can further aggravate the problem.

Fortunately, there are several home remedies you can use to keep the grease in check and keep your hair looking fresh for days.

Treatment Using Lemon :-

    • Take a large lemon fruit, ripe and juicy.
    • Cut the lemon in two halves and de-seed it completely.
    • Comb your hair and part them in two halves to reveal your scalp.
  • Squeeze the lemon juice over your scalp and massage it on the scalp and hair using the lemon half.
  • Use the lemon half for massaging the scalp until all that is left is lemon rind.
  • Now use the other half of the lemon in similar manner.
  • Leave the lemon juice on the hair for 45-60 minutes and then wash the hair using clean water only.
  • You don’t need to shampoo.
  • Allow your hair to dry before combing them.
  • This will effectively remove any traces of lemon on the hair.
  • Do this treatment every day if possible or every alternate day.
  • Regular application of lemon juice on the hair will curb the excessive secretion of oil from the hair.
  • The massage will open the clogged hair follicles which will reduce hair fall and allow hair to grow.
  • Lemon is also an effective remedy for dandruff.

Treatment Using Fuller’s Earth :-

    • Fuller’s earth is clay with beneficial mineral properties.
    • The clay is used mainly for treating oily skin and acne skin. However, it is useful for getting rid of excess oil from the hair as well.
  • Take three tablespoons fuller’s earth if you have medium length hair (more if you have longer hair and less if you have short hair) and add a little water to it to make a fine paste.
  • Apply the paste on your scalp as well as on the hair.
  • Leave for 15 minutes and then wear a shower cap.
  • Leave the shower cap on for 30-40 minutes and then wash hair using cold water only.
  • While washing the hair massage the scalp as well until it starts tingling.
  • This will stimulate the hair follicles and open them.
  • Your hair will feel smooth and appear shiny just after one wash with fuller’s earth.
  • The scalp will be clean and rid of oil and dirt.
  • Do this treatment twice a week to keep the scalp and hair free from oil.

Treatment Using Baking Soda :-

  • We are all aware of the oil absorption qualities of baking soda which makes it invaluable as a face wash for oily skin.
  • Surprising as it sounds, baking soda can be used to treated oily scalp as well.
  • Take three teaspoons of baking soda and add a little water in it to make a paste.
  • Massage this paste only on the scalp.
  • Massage very carefully so as not to break or cause any damage to hair.
  • Rub the scalp with baking soda for five to seven minutes and then leave for 15 minutes.
  • Wash the scalp using cold water. You may use shampoo for washing the hair.
  • If you suffer from excessive oily hair then use the treatment every day for keeping the scalp squeaky clean; otherwise use the treatment thrice a week.

Treatment Using Black Tea :-

Black tea has an astringent known as tannic acid that helps prevent buildup of excess oil on the scalp by tightening the pores.

  • Add one to two tablespoons of black tea leaves to a cup of water.
  • Boil it for 10 minutes.
  • Strain the tea leaves and allow the solution to cool to room temperature.
  • Pour this lukewarm mixture on your scalp and hair.
  • Leave it on for five minutes, rinse it off, and then wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
  • Repeat two or three times a week to get rid of oily hair.

Treatment Using Aloe Vera :-

    • The vitamins, minerals and enzymes present in aloe vera are very helpful for getting rid of oily hair.
    • Aloe vera helps detoxify the scalp of impurities and control oil secretion, while also nourishing your hair roots.
  • Plus, the gentle and soothing nature of aloe vera will keep your hair healthy.
  • Mix one teaspoon of aloe vera gel and one tablespoon of lemon juice in one cup of any mild shampoo.
  • Wash your hair and allow the shampoo to remain on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing it off.
  • Use this as a homemade shampoo whenever you shampoo your hair to control oiliness.

You can store this homemade shampoo for up to a week in the refrigerator.

Treatment Using White Vinegar :-

  • White vinegar has acetic acid which is helpful in the removal of oil from the scalp and hair.
  • Make a solution of white vinegar by combining ½ cup water and one cup white vinegar.
  • Apply the white vinegar solution on the scalp and hair and allow the hair to dry naturally.
  • If you don’t like the smell of white vinegar then add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the solution for fragrance.
  • Once the hair dries wash them using clean water.
  • You may use shampoo if you wish to.
  • White vinegar will help control secretion of excessive oil in the scalp and also cure dandruff.
  • White vinegar also gets rid of any infection causing bacteria in the scalp.

Treatment Using Argan Oil to :-

  • How well are you shampooing your scalp? Everyone needs to be extremely careful when shopping for conditioners and other hair treatments available in the market today.
  • These actually can do more harm than any good.
  • Argan oils from the cosmetic brand are the best for dry hair and not only dry hairs, so don’t prefer buying shampoos containing that.
  • Just ask an expert to call out the preferred names of the shampoos which are meant only for your oily hair.
  • Oily hair actually needs nourishment everyday.
  • Also one should ensure that oily hair should not be treated with silicone based products, as the oiliness would increase.

Treatment Using Conditioning  :-

    • Hair conditioning, at least twice a week is a must for healthy tresses.
    • If not observed, the hair gets dried up and the oil glands are over driven.
  • This instead makes the hair oily and some unwanted dose of dandruff starts appearing and resides on your head.
  • Amla and shikakai paste helps to get rid of this condition and certainly makes the hair soft and smooth while balancing the pH levels too.

Treatment Using Protein  :-

  • As they say it right, you are what you eat so it becomes really very important to check what you eat.
  • The hormones have a vital role to play and they decide if the hair is dry medium or oily.
  • Oily food and sugary delights activate these glands to produce oil,  which makes the hair oily in the long run.
