Home Remedies to Boost Immunity

Home Remedies to Boost Immunity

The immune system is the body’s defense mechanism to handle invaders. It is our body’s second line of defense, after physical barriers like the skin and the mucous membranes.

The immune system is located throughout the body and includes the thymus gland, the spleen, bone marrow and a vast network of lymph nodes. It comprises many cells, proteins, tissues and organs.

A good immune system is essential for proper functioning of the body. When the immune system becomes impaired, it can cause symptoms like frequent sicknessallergiesfatigue, digestive issues, delayed growth and slow development.

Several factors contribute to a low immune function. Some common factors are emotional stress, sleep deprivation, vitamin deficiencies, lack of physical exercise, over exposure to harmful ultraviolet (UV) sunrays, excessive use of antibiotics, exposure to environmental toxins, poor dietary habits and inadequate hygiene.

Boosting the immune system is very beneficial and relatively easy through lifestyle changes and some simple home remedies.

Flaxseeds :-

  1. Flaxseed contains alpha-linolenic acid, omega-3 fatty acid and phytoestrogens called lignans – all these ingredients are important in modulating the response of the immune system.
  2. By acting on the components that mediate the immune response, these compounds can help keep infections and autoimmune diseases away.

Turmeric :-

  1. Turmeric contains vitamin B6 and a lot of minerals such as potassium, manganese and iron that play an important role in the functioning of different body systems.
  2. Besides, it also contains curcumin which has valuable antioxidant action and this enhances the functioning of the immune system.

Vitamin C :-

  1. This vitamin may be the single most important nutrient for the immune system.
  2. It has direct effects on bacteria and viruses.
  3. Vitamin C should be taken with bioflavonoids – natural plant substances that enhance absorption and reinforce the action of this vitamin.

Get some sun :-

  1.  Spending some time in natural light is one of the key ways our bodies manufacture vitamin D.
  2. Vitamin D plays a role in helping our immune systems produce antibodies;
  3. low levels of vitamin D, on the other hand, have been correlated with a higher risk of respiratory infection.

Open your mouth and say “om.” :-

  1. While the physical effects of stress are still being studied by scientists, studies have so far proven that chronic stress can lead to a variety of negative effects on physical and emotional well-being, including a reduced immune response.
  2. Stress-reducing practices like meditation, massage, and even music can help us relax and improve our immune function.

Run a relaxing bath :-

  1.  A nice hot bath, with Epsom salt or relaxing aromatherapy scents, can go a long way toward reducing our stress – and making us sleepy.
  2. Sleep is one of the key ways our bodies repair themselves, and sleep deprivation, reports Mother Earth News, “activates the stress response, depresses immune function and elevates inflammatory chemicals.”

Garlic :-

    1. Garlic is a natural immune booster.
    2. A 2009 study published in Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis found that garlic enhances immune functions and has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activities.
    3. Its active ingredient allicin helps fight infection and bacteria.
  1. In addition, garlic has vitamins C and B6 along with the minerals selenium and manganese that help boost the immune system.
  2. Eat 2 to 3 raw cloves of garlic on an empty stomach daily.
  3. Also, add crushed garlic to your dishes. Avoid cooking garlic too much as it can destroy its active compounds.
  4. You can also take garlic supplements, but only under a doctor’s supervision.

Probiotic Yogurt :-

  1. Eating probiotic yogurt every day is one of the best home remedies for low immunity.
  2. Probiotic yogurt contains billions of friendly gut organisms (probiotics) that help strengthen your immune system.
  3. It aids the development of white blood cells and antibodies, which in turn reduces the incidence and duration of infections.
  4. Eat 2 cups of probiotic yogurt with live cultures daily.
  5. You can also drink a smoothie made with yogurt and immune-boosting fruits like apples bananas, blueberries, and strawberries.

Lemon :-

  1. Lemon contains vitamin C, which plays an important role in boosting your immunity.
  2. Vitamin C helps the white blood cells function properly so that they can respond quickly to infections.
  3. Lemon also aids in removing toxins from the body as well as helping maintaining your body weight.
  4. Squeeze the juice from ½ lemon into a glass of purified, lukewarm water.
  5. Add a little honey.
  6. Drink it on an empty stomach each morning.
  7. Wait 30 minutes, then enjoy your breakfast.

Green Tea :-

  1. Regularly drinking green tea is another simple home remedy to boost immunity.
  2. According to a 2011 study by Oregon State University, several beneficial compounds in green tea help increase “regulatory T cells” in the body that play a key role in immune function and suppression of autoimmune disease.
  3. The antioxidants in green tea protect the body from free-radical damage, which is essential to keep the immune system running normally.
  4. Steep a green tea bag in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the tea bag, add honey and drink it.
  6. Drink 2 to 3 cups of green tea daily.
