How to Get Water Out of Your Ear

Water in the ear is a very common occurrence and can happen to anyone. While swimming or taking a bath or shower, water can get inside the ears. Normally, the wax present in the ear canal prevents fluid from going deep inside the ear. But at times, fluid can get trapped within the ear.

This causes a tickling sensation in the ear that can create much discomfort. It may also be accompanied by pain and reduced hearing ability.

If left untreated, fluid in the ear can cause hearing loss, cyst formation, eardrum inflammation and other complications. This is why it is important to get rid of fluid in the ears as soon as possible.

First, you need to find out whether the fluid is accumulated in the outer ear or middle ear. Fluid accumulation in the middle ear must be treated by a doctor.

Gravity to Get Water Out of Your Ear:-

    • Gravity is the best way for how to get water out of your ear fast and easily.
    • Firstly, you must tilt your head sideways and keep the ear with water inside parallel with the ground.
    • And now you use the palm of the hand against the ear and press strongly for some seconds and remove your hand quickly.
  • This action will create a temporary vacuum to dislodge the fluid. And now, you need a cotton ear bud to remove carefully the water out of your ear.
  • Yawning or chewing also helps get water out of the ear.

Blow Dryer to Get Water Out of Your Ear:-

  • Blow dryer is a good choice to make trapped fluid evaporate quickly.
  • The warm and dry air that created from blow dryer will help to evaporate the water, since then, remove the water from the ear easily.
  • Firstly, you pull your ear lobe and keep a blow dryer about 10 to 12 inches away from the ear and direct to your ear and turn on the dryer with warm heat and low air flow.
  • Keep the blow dryer in the right position for about 30 seconds. Don’t let it over a few minutes for one time. You can do it again if the water is not removed absolutely.

Rubbing Alcohol And Vinegar to Get Water Out of Your Ear:-

  • Rubbing alcohol and vinegar is one of the popular home remedies to remove fluid in the ear.
  • Vinegar contains antibacterial properties that can contribute to kill germs in the ear.
  • And rubbing alcohol is very effective in drying up water in the ear. This mixture can help to limit the growth bacteria.
  • At first, you need to mix one teaspoon of rubbing alcohol with the equal amount of vinegar together.
  • And then fall in two or three drops of this liquid into the affected ear.
  • Now, rub gently the opening of the ear and tilt the head until the fluid drain out after waiting for about 30 seconds.

LET GRAVITY DO THE WORK :-

    • The first thing you can always try when you get water in your ear is to let gravity take over.
    • Try lying down or tilting your side to the side with the affected ear face down.
  • If this doesn’t work use the palm of your hand as a suctioning tool.
  • Place the flat of your palm against your ear and press hard for a few seconds.
  • Quickly release your hand and repeat a few times. Have a piece of cotton on hand to collect the draining fluids.

Pop your Ears to Get Water Out of Your Ear:-

  • Pop your ears.
  • Do this by holding your nose closed with your fingers, closing your lips, and blowing air into your nasal cavity.
  • You will notice pressure build inside your ears and your hearing will decrease.
  • This method is used by many amatuer swimmers.

White Vinegar :-

There is a chance that the reason why the water does not want to go out is because it has been stuck by the ear wax found inside the ear. White vinegar has acid that can help break down the ear wax that is causing the fluid inside the ear to get stuck.

  • Mix white vinegar with a little bit of rubbing alcohol.
  • Make use of a dropper and drop it on the ear.
  • Carefully drain it out by tilting your heads towards the ground until such time when you will begin to feel the fluid start to remove.

Heat Therapy :-

You have to remember that it is in the Eustachian tubes where the fluid usually gets stuck. This process will allow the Eustachian tubes to open up and release the fluid that might be causing the discomfort that you are feeling on your ear.

  • Make sure that you will heat water. If you have a heater, you can use the warm water from the faucet.
  • Dip a clean cloth on the warm water and remove the excess water.
  • Place the cloth over the ear area for about half a minute.
  • This would have to be done several times until the fluid becomes dislodged from the ear.

Steam :-

Do you know that steam can be very effective in getting rid of the buildup of fluids inside your ear? You have to remember that steam will help the Eustachian tube become open and this will eventually get rid of the fluids inside the ear.

  • Place hot water in a bowl.
  • Make sure that you will cover your head with a towel as this will allow the steam not to escape.
  • Inhale the steam slowly.
  • Do this for about 5 – 10 minutes.
  • Tilt your head to the side that is affected and feel the fluids start to come out.

Valsalva Maneuver :-

Performing the Valsalva maneuver will help pop your ears to open the Eustachian tubes and push water out of your ears.

  • Close your mouth and pinch your nostrils closed with your fingers, then take a deep breath.
  • Gently blow air out of your nose to regulate the air pressure. If done correctly, you will hear a slight popping sound which means the Eustachian tubes are open again.

Note: Don’t blow your nose too hard as it may cause damage to the ear drum.
