How to Get Rid of an Armpit Rash

How to Get Rid of an Armpit Rash

The underarm area is a very sensitive zone on the body, and unfortunately, it is also very prone to rash. As one of the warmest places on the external area of the body, it is a breeding ground for bacteria, and rashes can easily develop as a result of a reaction to chemicals, environmental elements or even personal body conditions. However, rashes are easily treatable, and with some preventive measures and basic care, you can get rid of rashes under your arms.

Aloe vera leaves :-

Apply the gel of aloe vera leaves on the rash and surrounding affected areas. Leave it on for some time and then wash it off with cold water.

Neem leaves :-

Grind some neem leaves to make paste. Apply it all over the affected area. The antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties help to soothe the itchiness and irritation to a large extent.

Tea tree oil mixed with water :-

This combo when applied on the underarm rash can kill the fungus and stop itchiness. Use a cotton ball when applying this blend on the affected regions.

Baking soda :-

Mix a half teaspoon of baking soda into your bath water. Alternatively, you can dust a little bit of cornstarch or baking soda directly on the affected areas for a drier feel.

Loose fitting clothes :-

Ensure your armpits are as dry as possible. Wear loose fitting clothing that is made of porous fabric to allow air flow and use only a dermatologist recommended powder or deodorant.

Avoid Scratching :-

Avoid scratching the affected areas, as skin abrasions triggered by scratching can lead to bacterial or fungal infections. Use a topical ointment recommended by a skin specialist if the itching becomes unbearable.

If the armpit rash does not seem to fade away with the aforementioned home treatments or reoccurs often, it is crucial to visit a specialist to determine the underlying cause. A dermatologist will be able to provide you with a more accurate diagnosis and treatment that will help cure the rash at its root cause.

Coconut Oil :-

Extra-virgin coconut oil can help get rid of the irritation caused by an underarm rash. Its healthy fats and vitamin E content help keep the area moisturized, calms itching and facilitates healing. It even reduces friction that can worsen the condition and prevents infection.

  • Dab some extra-virgin coconut oil on your armpits and allow it to absorb completely into the skin. Do this a few times daily until the rash is gone.
  • Alternatively, prepare a solution with 4 tablespoons of extra-virgin coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of lavender essential oil. Dip a cotton ball in this solution and apply it on the affected area. Allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse it off with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel. Repeat 2 times daily for a few days.

Aloe Vera :-

Aloe vera is another home treatment for skin rashes due to its antibacterial and antifungal properties. Its soothing nature relieves itching and reduces redness.

  • Cut off a thick aloe vera leaf and slit it open. Scoop out the gel and apply it directly on the affected area. Allow it to sit for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse it off with cool water. Use this simple remedy 3 or 4 times a day until the rash clears.
  • Alternatively, mix a little turmeric in 1 to 3 tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Rub this solution on your armpits. Wait 30 minutes before rinsing it off with cool water. Do this twice daily for a week or so.

Oatmeal :-

Oatmeal is great for alleviating irritation and itching due to a rash on your armpit. It even helps normalize your skin’s pH level and also keeps the skin soft and moisturized. For rashes, use colloidal oatmeal (finely ground oatmeal).

A 2012 study published in The Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology points out that antioxidant phenolic compounds in oats are responsible for the potent anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant properties.

  1. Mix 1 cup of colloidal oatmeal in a bathtub filled with warm water.
  2. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil or any other essential oil of your choice.
  3. Soak in this relaxing solution for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Make sure the affected area is completely immersed in the water.
  4. Do this once daily until the rash heals.

Apple Cider Vinegar :-

Apple cider vinegar is an effective antifungal and antibacterial agent. It can help reduce inflammation, soothe itching and support healing of your armpit rash. Its acetic acid content prevents infection and helps rebalance your skin’s pH level.

  1. Put 1 teaspoon of raw, organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a cup.
  2. Add ½ cup of water to dilute it.
  3. Dab this mixture on the affected area and rinse it off after 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Do this a few times daily for a few weeks.

If it causes discomfort, stop using it.

Note: Being acidic in nature, apple cider vinegar could irritate your skin if not diluted by water.
