Natural Home remedies for Nausea – Vomiting – Morning Sickness

Nausea is a condition that troubles us every now and then. You tend to suffer from dizziness, sweating, excessive hot feeling and vomiting when you are nauseated, although you may not necessarily vomit.

Typically, nausea indicates that there is an imbalance in the body. Often, it is nothing more serious than the body’s negative reaction to something that you have eaten and the body needs to eliminate.

Frequently, women tend to have nausea during the beginning stages of pregnancy. It may also manifest as an adverse effect of treatment for cancer. Usually, nausea is not a severe condition. However, it may drain your energy and induce fatigue. Many a time, nausea can be relieved by the use of natural remedies that can be made at home.

Cold Compress :-

  1. Take a handful of ice cubes and wrap them in a soft and clean towel. Place the towel on the back of your neck, across the throat, or on the forehead for some time. You will find that you are feeling better presently.
  1. Instead, you may dip a soft cotton cloth in cold water and then wring out the cloth to remove the excess water. Place the cloth on the throat, the forehead, or the neck for 5-10 minutes to decrease the severity of nausea.

Lemon :-

Lemon also eases nausea. The neutralizing acids in lemon help create bicarbonates in the stomach that in turn treat nausea due to the flu, gas, bloating, heartburn and upset stomach. Also, lemon aides in balancing the body’s natural pH levels.

  1. Mix one tablespoon of fresh lemonjuice and 1 teaspoon of honey. Consume this mixture slowly for instant relief from nausea.
  1. Mix 2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and half teaspoon of salt in lukewarm water. Inhale the aroma of this water for a few minutes and then slowly drink it. But if you have high blood pressure, then don’t add the salt.
  1. Cut medium size lemon into two halves and sprinkle pinch of salt on one half. Hold one half close to your nose and inhale the aroma slowly.

Ginger :-

Ginger root contains chemicals called gingerols and shogaols that can give relief from nausea and vomiting.

  1. Add five to six drops of ginger juice in a teaspoon of honey. Consume this mixture slowly when you wake up in the morning.
  2. Alternatively, boil some grated ginger in water until the water is reduced by half. Let it cool and then add some honey. Drink it daily in the morning.
  3. You can make ginger tea by adding one-half teaspoon of powdered ginger to a cup of boiling water. Let it steep for 10 minutes and then strain it. Sip the tea slowly. Pregnant women must not drink this tea more than three times daily.
  4. Sucking a small piece of ginger or chewing a ginger candy can also give quick relief from nausea.

Peppermint :-

The anesthetic property present in peppermint will calm the stomach and thus help reduce nausea.

  1.   Make peppermint tea by putting one tablespoon of peppermint leaves in one cup of boiling water. Let it steep for 10 minutes and then strain it. If desired, you can add some sugar or honey. Drink the tea slowly, sipping it over some time.
  2.   Alternatively, you can put a few drops of peppermint essential oil on a cloth and inhale the smell. Even sucking on peppermint candies can be very effective.

Cinnamon :-

Cinnamon contains chemicals called catechins that help mitigate sickness. Furthermore, cinnamon is exceptionally soothing for stomach irritation and thus it helps treat nausea caused by acid reflux, indigestion and gas. It helps treat vomiting too.

  1. Boil ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder or small piece of cinnamon stick in 2 cup of water until water reduce half.
  2. Strain the water.  You can add 1 tablespoon honey and/or pinch of black pepper salt for taste.
  3. Drink this water slowly to alleviate nausea.

Note: Cinnamon is not recommended for pregnant women.

Onion :-

Extract 1 tablespoon fresh juice of onion and add 1 teaspoon of grated ginger and 1 teaspoon of honey to it. Consume this mixture slowly with half cup of water. It is a effective natural cure for nausea.

Eat Frequently :-

Even though you may not have an appetite for anything, make sure to always have something in your stomach. I found that when my stomach was empty, I would feel overwhelmingly sick, so I would make sure to eat a little something every 2 hours or so to avoid being famished. If you pack healthy snacks to take to work or while you’re on the go, you won’t be tempted by fast food drive-thrus, which aren’t great nutritionally, and they can put a dent in your wallet.

Keep Snacks Near Your Bed :-

If you feel sick or hungry in the middle of the night, the last thing you want to have to do is go downstairs to the kitchen to find something to eat. Keep a variety of snacks (granola bars were a favorite for me) near your bed in case you get the midnight munchies.

Learn acupressure :-

Acupressure is comprised of putting pressure in specific points on the body to relieve some symptoms causing discomfort or feelings of being ill, like nausea. You can use a nausea band, or just apply the pressure yourself. It is thought that utilizing pressure points in your body will release neurotransmitters, like serotonin or endorphins. These chemicals then block other chemicals that may be out of balance and/or causing you to feel sick.

Some acupressure points to try…

The p6 point or “inner gate”: 2 or 3 finger widths down from the top crease in your wrist (at the base of your palm) there is a groove between two large tendons. Gently apply pressure to this area when you feel nauseas.

Top and bottom of wrist: Take your thumb and index finger and firmly press on the points (where the p6 is) on both sides of your write. Hold for 10-30 seconds, or up to 5 minutes, and breathe deeply.

Manage anxiety :-

For me, when it comes to nausea, I am my worst enemy. If I even think I feel nauseous I worry about it until I really, truly, do feel sick. This happens particularly in places when it would be extremely unfortunate to vomit-like in a class, during a meeting, on a date, and so on and so forth. If you worry yourself sick, you can try-

  1.  Accepting the fact that you might throw up. Acknowledge the thought, and let it go. This masters the fear causing the nausea.
  2. Breathing and sipping water. It gives you something to focus on feeling better. Hyperventilating can also make you nausea, or even make you vomit.
