Natural Remedies For Sunburn, Rashes And Heat Prickly

Sunburns and heat rash occur due to prolonged exposure to the sun and result in discomforting conditions of the skin. Sunburns involve signs such as redness, pain, itching, and peeling of the skin, which can be accompanied with other problems due to overexposure to the sun. Sunburns are of varying degree, from first degree which is not very deep, to third degree which is normally severe. To get relief from sunburns the natural way, there are a variety of remedies to soothe the skin. As an instant action, apply ice cubes or sponge the skin with a wet towel as it cools the skin and relieves you of heat promptly. Cucumber has remarkable soothing properties. Slice up a cucumber and rub it on your skin to diminish severe heat from the skin. You can also rub mustard oil on your skin to get relief from sunburns. Sandalwood is also endowed with excellent qualities to cool the skin.

Oatmeal :-

Oatmeal is a popular treatment for prickly rash due to its anti-irritating, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. It will have a soothing effect on the skin and give instant relief from inflammation and itching caused by prickly heat.

  • Add one cup of finely ground oatmeal powder to a bathtub filled with cool water. Stir well, until the water gets a milky color.
  • Soak in this bath for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Pat dry your body with a soft towel.
  • Do this twice daily for a week to get relief.

 

Baking Soda :-

Baking soda is another useful remedy for prickly heat treatment. It works as a gentle exfoliating agentthat helps unclog pores by removing dead skin cells, dirt and other impurities. This in turn relieves the itching and inflammation associated with prickly heat.

  • Add one teaspoon of baking soda to one cup of cold water.
  • Soak a clean washcloth in the solution and wring out the excess water.
  • Put the washcloth over the affected area for five to 10 minutes.
  • Repeat four or five times a day for a week.

Cold Treatment :-

Using a cold compress over the affected area will provide immediate relief from inflammation, prickling sensations and itching.

  • Wrap a few ice cubes in a dishcloth. Place it on the affected areas for five to 10 minutes at a time. Repeat every four to six hours for two to three days. This will prevent the rashes from getting worse and spreading further.
  • Alternatively, you can soak a cotton cloth in cold water, wring out the excess water and place it over the affected area for five to 10 minutes. Repeat three or four times a day for about a week.
  • You can also take a cold shower or bath as needed to reduce the intensity of prickly heat symptoms.

Raw potato :-

This is one of the simplest remedies to ease the prickly sensation. Cut some medium sized potatoes into a number of slices and then rub them on the affected portions.

Watermelon :-

Take a watermelon, remove its seeds and make a pulp. Apply this pulp onto the rashes for instant relief. Alternatively, you can also drink a glass of crushed watermelon juice.

Ginger :-

Ginger has antioxidant as well as anti-inflammatory properties that help regulate the digestion process, in turn reducing stomach pain. Plus, ginger helps decrease the production of free radicals as well as increase digestive juices and neutralize stomach acids.

  • Cut one medium-size fresh ginger root into thin slices.
  • Bring one cup of water to a boil and add the ginger slices. Boil for three minutes, and then simmer for another five minutes.
  • Remove from heat, strain, and add honey to taste.
  • Sip it slowly.
  • Drink ginger tea two or three times a day to ease stomach ache and improve digestion.

Warm Compress :-

Heat is one of the best ways to soothe a stomach ache. It increases circulation and speeds up the digestion process. As food gets digested properly, stomach pain will be alleviated.

  • Place a heating pad or hot water bottle on your stomach for five to 10 minutes at a time. For best results, lie down with the heating device over your stomach. Do this several times a day.
  • Enjoying a warm bath or shower for 15 to 20 minutes at least twice a day will also help relieve stomach pain.

If your stomach pain persists for more than three days and you are having symptoms like fever and headache, you should visit your doctor immediately.

Fuller’s earth (Multani mitti) is a best heat rashes remedy :-

Multani mitti or fuller earth pack is excellent for curing heat rash. You can make a pack by mixing five tablespoon of fuller earth, three tablespoon of rose water and plain water. Make a paste to apply over the back and the affected area. Allow it to dry to cure prickly heat and wash off with cold water. This natural remedy will lessen the irritation of summer worst heat rashes.

Neem leaves paste over skin heat rashes :-

Neem leaves has been used traditionally to cure skin disorders such as prickly heat, itchy skin, rashes. Treating heat rashes with the aid of neem leaves is an effective remedy. Grind some neem leaves to make a paste. Apply it over red rashes on body. Neem’s anti bacterial and antiseptic properties helps to control the irritation and itchiness to a great extent.

 

Talcum Powder :-

You may use any herbal talcum powder and put it all over your body. Avoid using scented talcum powder as it may enhance the irritation. It will assist in keeping your skin dry in humid conditions, thus, cures rashes speedily.

Lime Juice :-

Lime juice contains powerful antioxidants that speed up the healing process. Squeeze fresh lime and mix it with some amount of water.  To sweeten the taste, you may add a tsp of honey. Drink 3 to 4 glasses on a daily basis.

Honey :-

Honey is famous for its antibacterial properties. Apply some natural honey directly onto your skin. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes and subsequently, wash it off.

Cucumber :-

To relieve yourself from the petrifying burning sensation, apply peeled slices of cucumber onto your skin. As an alternative, you can crush or squeeze the cucumber and dab the pulp on the skin. Leave the pulp to stand for 30 minutes and then rinse it off.

  • Cut a cucumber into thin slices. Soak them for a few minutes in a bowl of cold water mixed with two tablespoons of lemon juice. Place the soaked cucumber slices on the affected areas for 10 minutes. Do this three times daily for a week.
  • You can also rub cucumber pulp on the affected area. Leave it on for 30 minutes, and then wash it off with cool water. This will cool the area and lessen the itching. Do this several times a day for a week to promote healing.
  • As cucumber has high water content, also eat it daily to keep the body hydrated.

Usually heat rash disappears within a week using these natural treatments. If you do not get relief within a week or if some kind of skin infection develops, seek medical help.

Raw Mangos :-

Raw mangos are one of the best foods for effectively cooling down your body and giving you relief from itching and other symptoms of prickly heat.

  • Boil two thoroughly washed raw mangos in two cups of water until they become soft.
  • When cool, remove the mangos from the water and squeeze out the pulp.
  • Add the pulp to the cooled water, along with rock salt and sugar according to your taste.
  • Drink it once or twice daily for a week to speed up the healing process.

Papaya :-

Take a ripe papaya and mash it. Apply the pulp onto the affected skin and let it stand for 20 to 25 minutes. Rinse it off with tap water. This will relieve the skin from burning sensation and reduce itching.

Mint Tea :-

Mint tea not only brings down the body temperature, but it also speeds up the healing process. Add some mint leaves in 2 cups of water and allow it to boil. Stir it with a spoon for about 3 to 4 minutes. Now, strain it and throw the leaves away. Add the sweetener as per your need.

Lavender Essential Oil :-

As lavender oil has antibiotic properties, it helps in healing and soothing the prickly heat. Add 5 drops of lavender oil to tepid water. Take a bath using this water. Besides, you may also dip a clean cloth in the prepared solution and wipe the influenced area.

  • Alternatively, you can also apply lavender oil directly onto the rashes.

Margosa Leaves :-

Margosa is popularly known for its antibacterial, astringent, and sterilized properties. Mash some margosa leaves to prepare a coarse paste and smudge it onto the devastated area. Or else, you may use its oil together with powdered camphor.

Aloe Vera Gel :-

Aloe Vera has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that aid in lessening different types of skin rashes, including the ones caused by prickly heat. Pluck an aloe leaf from its plant and cut it. Now, squeeze out the natural gel from the aloe leaf and apply it onto the infected portion of your body. It eases irritation and redness. Alternatively, you may also make use of aloe rich moisturizing lotion.

  • Extract fresh aloe vera gel from an aloe leaf.
  • Rub the gel over the affected skin.
  • Leave it on for at least 20 minutes, and then take a cold bath.
  • Do this at least two times a day for about a week.

Nettle Leaves :-

Herbal tea prepared from nettle leaves serves as a wonderful remedy for heat rash. To make this tea, mix two to three teaspoons of dried nettle leaf in a cup of hot water. Allow it to steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink at least 1 cup of tea 3 times a day. You may also take 1 to 2 ounces of nettle leaf juice thrice a day. Alternatively, you may also prefer taking capsules that provide 5 ml tincture.

  • Keep your bedroom well ventilated.
  • Wear light and comfy cotton clothes in summers.
  • Prefer loose clothes while sleeping.
  • If you work out, then take a shower afterward to avoid perspiration. Bath with cold water and keep your skin clean.
  • Drink plenty of water, fresh fruit and vegetable juices particularly of carrots, celery, cucumber, lettuce, beetroot, apples, in order to remain healthy and hydrated. You may also have buttermilk during the summer season.
  • Drink coconut water on an empty stomach.
  • Keep off from direct sunlight.
  • Change the diapers of the infants frequently.
  • When it’s too hot outside, stay indoors under an air-conditioner or a fan.
