Amazing Home Remedies For Loss Appetite

Loss of appetite can be described as a reluctance to eat anything. A person suffering from low appetite will not feel hungry which, in turn, decreases resistance mechanism of the human body and raises the chances of illness.

This condition can arise due to a number of factors. Some of them are sedentary lifestyle, aging, anxiety and depression, pregnancy, nausea, loss of smelling and tasting power, difficulty in swallowing, dehydration, radiation treatment, drug abuse, pain, medical conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, asthma, jaundice, yellow fever, Addison’s disease, dementia, gastrointestinal infections, hypothyroidism, AIDS, kidney and liver failures, inflammation of gallbladder, medications, stress, alcohol intake, smoking, physical inactivity, and extreme weather conditions .

There are several symptoms associated with loss of appetite. Some of them are fatigue, exceptional weight loss, constipation, breathing difficulty, acidity, loose motions, abdominal cramps, indigestion, cough, general malaise, mild fever, mood swings, rapid heart rate, dizziness, nausea, reduced urine output, etc.

Indian Gooseberry :-

  • Indian gooseberry is a very best kind of home remedy to treat loss of appetite problem.
  • It will promote the proper functioning of stomach and thus improve hunger.
  • Take some dry Indian gooseberries and make powder of it.
  • Consume this powder daily with water.
  • Lemon juice and black pepper can also be added to it.
  • Repeat doing this method to increase hunger.

Ginger :-

    • Ginger has best kinds of properties that will help in properly stimulating the appetite and promotes digestion.
    • Take some ginger pieces and grate it properly.
    • Add this to boiling water and allow it to boil for some time.
    • Add some honey to it and drink this tea to get the best results.
  • Regularly drinking this tea will help to improve appetite and thus cure loss of appetite.

Cardamom :-

  • Cardamom is also an effective kind of home remedy to handle loss of appetite problem.
  • It can remove indigestion as well as acidity problem.
  • Use of cardamom will perfectly help to promote secretion of juices in the digestive system.
  • Prepare some cardamom tea and drink it regularly for best kinds of results.
  • Add some cardamom powder to water and boil it. Drink this tea for avoiding loss of appetite.

Black Pepper :-

    • Black pepper is often used as an Ayurvedic remedy to improve digestion, increase appetite, and treat gastrointestinal problems. It also relieves stomach and intestinal gas.
    • Basically, black pepper stimulates the taste buds, which in turn increases the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, thereby improving digestion. Furthermore, it contains a compound called piperine that aids absorption of nutrients including selenium, beta-carotene and vitamin B.
  • Combine one tablespoon of jaggery powder and one-half teaspoon of ground black pepper.
  • Consume it on a regular basis for a few days.
  • Do not use this black pepper remedy if you have stomach ulcers or have had abdominal surgery.

Carom Seeds :-

  • Carom seeds, also known as ajwain, are good for the digestive system.
  • They help increase appetite and treat problems like indigestion and flatulence by improving the secretion of digestive acids and enzymes.
  • You can simply chew one-half teaspoon of carom seeds half an hour before meals.
  • Alternatively, put three tablespoons of carom seeds in some lemon juice. Keep it in a dry, dark place until the mixture dries completely. Then, mix in a little black salt. Take one teaspoon of this mixture along with warm water, twice daily for a few days.

Dandelion Root :-

  • Dandelion root is known to promote digestion and regulate appetite.
  • It also helps treat liver and gallbladder problems. It works as a mild diuretic as well.
  • Prepare dandelion root tea by boiling powdered dandelion root in a cup of water for about five minutes. You can also add a cinnamon stick.
  • Strain the tea. You may sweeten it with honey if you like before drinking it.
  • You can purchase dandelion root from a health food store.
  • If you have dandelions growing in your yard, you can separate the roots from the foliage, clean and chop them into small pieces, and bake them in the oven at 250 degrees for two hours.
  • Before using this herb, consult your doctor to determine the right dose and be sure it will not interact with any medications you may be taking.

Caraway :-

  • Caraway seeds cure the problem of low appetite.
  • A tea made from caraway seeds also deals with digestive disorders.
  • Boil one cup of water. Now, put two teaspoons of caraway seeds in the boiling water.
  • Cover it with a lid and steep it for 15 minutes. Strain the infusion and add honey to sweeten it.
  • Besides, you can add mint twig while steeping for additional flavor.
  • Alternatively, grind some roasted caraway seeds and add a pinch of salt to it. Take ½ teaspoon of this powder after every meal to increase your appetite.
  • Moreover, add caraway to cabbage dishes, rye bread, sauerkraut and pork, cheese sauces, coleslaw, goose, and cream soups.
  • Sprinkle olive oil and caraway seeds on your toast.

Coriander :-

    • Take a handful of coriander leaves and extract their juice.
    • Consume 1-2 tbsp of its juice daily until you see improvement.
  • You can add a few drops of lemon juice and a dash of salt to coriander juice.
  • It releases gastric enzymes which improves the appetite.

Tamarind :-

  • The laxative and carminative effects of tamarind improve the appetite.
  • Take some tamarind pulp in a bowl and add water to soften it.
  • Then add a little pepper, sugar, cloves and cinnamon.
  • Strain this solution and drink it on a regular basis.
  • Alternatively, add tamarind to your curries.

Note – Avoid the Malabar variety of tamarind since it represses the appetite.

Fennel :-

  • Fennel boosts up the appetite.
  • Fennel extract should be taken in doses of 5 to 30 drops.
  • On the other hand, oil should be taken in doses of 1 to 5 drops at a time.
  • Alternatively, you can have fennel tea. Boil one cup of water.
  • Then, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of freshly crushed fennel seeds.
  • Steep the mixture on stove for 5 to 10 minutes.

Note – Consuming fennel tea in large quantities may cause hallucinations and muscle cramps.
